The Windrider Film Forum is an incredible supporter of the short film format. Love Hacking was part of their short film showcase in July at the 2013 Bay Area Windrider Film Forum in Menlo Park. Check out some of the other films from the event here.
Youth + Technology = Change We are just weeks away from the official launch of Map Your World. We released a fabulous demo website which will show you some of the incredible work our mappers have been doing all around the world. Check out www.mapyourworld.org and start getting some ideas for what you can map when we go live! HERE'S A NEW VIDEO ABOUT OUR YOUNG MAPPERS! Map Your World enables young people to create interactive data and story maps focused on important issues and problems in their communities. They write custom surveys, and then upload and visualize the data they collect onto digital maps and use the information and new insights to create tangible solutions. The project leverages existing, proven technologies including Google Earth, GPS, Android phones, and the open source tool Formhub.
From Prayasam kids in Kolkata tracking polio vaccination rates and drinkable water taps to Oakland middle-schoolers counting and discarding cigarette butts littered around their lake, and Seattle youth mapping incidents of violence and bullying, young people everywhere can now collect their data, map the issues, share powerful stories and become change agents in their own communities. Love Hacking screened at AFI/Discovery Channel Silverdocs Film Festival in Washington DC this month. It was also voted "Best of the Fest" at the Palm Springs International Shortfest. Love Hacking was nominated as a finalist in the documentary category for the Student Academy Awards. Cheer on the winners Ellen Tripler, Keiko Wright, and Heather Burky. See all the winners here. |
